Police in Mulanje have arrested Samson Mukhanyiwa, 36 for murdering his wife for allegedly drinking his beer.
Mulanje Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO), Gresham Ngwira said on May 20, 2020, the suspect accused his wife, Janet Issah to have drunk his beer.
He told her to refund the money threatening to take an unspecified action if she failed to do so, according to PRO.
“Hearing this, the wife went to her parents where she was given the money for the refund, but due to fear, when she came back she hid in a nearby garden. Later, Mukhanyiwa started vandalizing the house with anger seeing that the wife was not showing up.
“The wife then came out of her hiding to talk to the husband. Surprisingly, the man took a panga knife and hacked her on her left thigh and arm,” Ngwira explained.
He said Issah died on the spot and postmortem conducted at Mulanje District Hospital established that death was due to successive loss of blood.
“After the incident, Mukhanyiwa escaped and but we managed to arrest him. He will appear in court soon to answer murder charges that contravene section 209 of the penal code,” he added.
Mukhanyiwa hails from NasiyayaVillage while Issahcame from NamkwakwalaVillage both under the area of Senior Chief Nkanda in the district.
