‘If I Can’t Have Her No One Will”…Man who Killed Girlfriend in Cold Blood

A bereaved family has revealed that their daughter was on the verge of getting married and was involved in a heated argument with her side boyfriend, before she was murdered.

The family in Zimbabwe also said that the murder suspect Munyaradzi  Chinyama, was not Chipo Vhunga’s live-in boyfriend as he purported to be.

Chipo Vhunga, who worked as a security guard ,was allegedly murdered in Crowborough, Harare and Chinyama, who worked as a supervisor at the same security firm, vanished into thin air soon after the crime was committed.

It was learnt that he had been bragging that its only him who can be with Chipo and no one else.

Ten days after the murder, he went to surrender himself to the police and confessed to the crime.

He is expected to appear in court today (19th of June) and he was charged with murder.

Chipo’s mom, Mrs Virginia Vhunga said the only boyfriend the family knew about, was a man who resides in the United Kingdom.

She said Chinyama was not their son in law and he wasn’t her live in boyfriend either.

“He stayed in Kuwadzana, while Chipo stayed in Crowborough, Harare. Her UK boyfriend was making plans to come to Zimbabwe for lobola proceedings. Maybe this triggered Chinyama’s wrath.

She said her daughter and Chinyama were workmates, hence they could have embarked on an office fling.

A sobbing Virginia Vhunga said she is bitter about Chipo’s murder and there is nothing she can do to bring her dead daughter back.

According to the Manica Post, Chinyama went on to use Chipo’s phone, to communicate with her relatives while he was on the run.

Chinyama is said to have called Chipo’s family using her phone, saying he killed her because he had seen  chats between her and her UK boyfriend.

“He was not remorseful at all and that really hurt us as a family,”

Mrs Vhunga said her daughter was soft spoken and was willing to settle down and start her own family.

Chipo’s sister Yolanda, said she was informed of the former’s death by Chinyama, after she had sent her mobile money.

Yolanda said she had called Chipo to ask her if she had received the money, only for a gloating Chinyama to answer the phone.

“He said to me, ‘Muri kutotaura henyu zvemari, Chipo afa uyo (You are concerned about money, Chipo is dead). We had to call my other sister and her husband to go and check on her. Within a couple of hours, they confirmed that she was indeed dead.”

Chinyama is said to have answered several phone calls from Chipo’s relatives, gloating about her murder each time they called.
