Muslim Lady Disqualified From Ghana’s Most Beautiful For Refusing To Remove Hijab

A young Ghanaian Muslim lady called Zainab Alhassan has described how she was disqualified from the audition of TV3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful beauty pageant for wearing a hijab.

In a Facebook post, Zainab Alhassan said she passed through the first part of the audition, exhibited her talent, and showed off her oratory skills to which the judges were impressed.

She said she was disqualified after she told the judges that she won’t remove the hijab during the reality show.

Zainab said at a point she became concerned when the judges started asking her questions regarding her choice of clothes.

Coming from a traditional Muslime home, Zainab said wearing a hijab at all times is a requirement.

The hijab is a unique scarf that Muslim women start wearing from childhood to signify purity and respect for the tradition.

“Just a few days ago I decided to try my luck on one of the most popular reality Tv shows in Ghana. Ghana’s Most Beautiful, I know it’s a good opportunity for anyone who wanted to make an impact in their community to sell themselves and open great doors of sponsorship for them in their future activities…” Zainab narrated.

Zainab added that the judges went as far as asking her if she bathed in her hijab when she refused to remove it. The young lady was disqualified from partaking in ongoing Ghana’s Most Beautiful beauty pageant auditions.

She believes she has been discriminated against based on her religious affiliation.

Here is Zainab Alhassan narrative the incident:
