Accident claims two lives in Machinga

Two motorists have been killed in a head on collision at Ntaja along Bakili Muluzi highway in Machinga on Saturday.

Machinga police deputy spokesperson, Sergeant Ngwashape Msume confirmed to Mana online Monday that the accident occurred at Ntaja near Meru Filing Station.

According to Msume, the deceased are Shafi Sungani, 27, and Wisiki Tuwasa, 28, both from Machinga District.

“On the said date, Sungani was riding a motorcycle registration number BW 789 and was heading towards Ntaja direction while Tuwasa was riding an unregistered motorcycle and was on his way from Ntaja to Nsanama with a pillion passenger on board, said the police spokesperson.

Msume said preliminary investigations by the police established that Tuwasa was over-speeding.

Upon arrival at Ntaja Meru Filing Station, Tuwasa left handles of his motorcycle which was in motion and in the process lost control. The motorbike went on the other lane of the road where he collided head on with Sungani,” said the PRO.

Msume explained to Mqana that following the impact both riders sustained head injuries and were rushed to Ntaja Health Centre where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Sungani hailed from Dambo Village in Traditional Authority Chikweo while Tuwasa hailed from Nkhuna Village in Traditional Authority Sitola both from Machinga District.
