Bakili Muluzi speaks out on fresh poll results favouring Chakwera

Former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi has come out of his cocoon to comment on the yet to be released official results of the fresh Presidential polls.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) on Tuesday held fresh Presidential polls following a court order and the results are showing that Tonse Alliance candidate Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has won the polls.

According to the results, Chakwera has amassed 2,597,088 votes representing 59.4 percent while Peter Mutharika has amassed 1,742, 802 votes representing 38 percent.

Speaking in an interview with one of the local radio station Muluzi asked Malawians to remain calm as the country awaits the outcome of the fresh polls.

Muluzi then urged all competing candidates to accept the results of the fresh Presidential polls.

He also disclosed that he spoke to President Peter Mutharika of the DPP-UDF alliance yesterday and he will today speak to President in-waiting Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

Muluzi has since said he will attend the inauguration of the President elect once invited.
