Boxing Star Floyd Mayweather Offers To Pay For George Floyd’s Funeral

Former boxing champion turned promoter Floyd Mayweather has pledged to cover George Floyd’s funeral and memorial service costs.

According to information gathered from tabloid news website TMZ, Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, disclosed that the retired boxing star will handle the costs for the funeral on June 9 in Floyd’s hometown of Houston.

Ellerbe also added that Mayweather has been personally in touch with Floyd’s family.

According to Jason Lee, CEO of multimedia platform, Hollywood Unlocked, Mayweather had Anzel Jennings-the CEO of TMT music who grew up in Floyd’s hometown-reach out to the deceased’s family on his behalf to offer to cover all the costs of the funeral proceedings.

However, it had not yet been confirmed at the time of publishing the article if the family have accepted Mayweather’s offer.

Floyd, 46, was killed last week by a Minneapolis police officer after he pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck while Floyd was handcuffed.
Now-former officer Derek Chauvin, who can be seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck as he died in a video that circulated widely on social media, was charged Friday with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Floyd’s death has sparked protests and riots countrywide, with demonstrators calling for an end to police brutality against black communities, and for charges to be brought against the three other officers involved in his death.
