CDEDI asks Mutharika to apologize for calling JB as prostitute

Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) has asked President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to apologize to all women in the country calling former President Dr. Joyce Banda as a prostitute.

On Monday, Mutharika held whistle stop tours in Thyolo kick starting his campaign trail ahead of the forthcoming fresh Presidential polls scheduled for June 23, 2020.

One of the places that Mutharika made stopover was at Goliati where she attacked Joyce Banda describing her as a prostitute who attempted to sleep with his late brother Bingu wa Mutharika while in China.

Mutharika said this while refuting Banda’s claims that he is an imbiber who embarrassed her while in China.

“I will tell you the genesis of her hatred. It was in China when we were switching ties from Taiwan to China. She did not know anything about it because Bingu did not fully trust her. We went to China to negotiate the deal. When the deal was finalised, Joyce Banda was involved. We all went to China. When we went to China, she wanted to occupy the room next to the President.”

Mutharika said that it was his decision to stop Banda occupy the room next to the President that got him on the wrong side of Banda.

“The room next to the President is occupied by his security detail. I told Banda that she could not occupy that room and she was angry. I told her that she should not export her prostitution from Lilongwe to China,” said Mutharika.

But Mutharika’s remarks have attracted criticisms from all corners with CDEDI asking the President to apologize.

“It is shameful for the State President who happens to be the #He_For_She champion to insult the former president Dr. Joyce Banda by calling her as ‘Hule’.

“Mutharika has dragged the office of presidency into a total disrepute,” said CDEDI Acting Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa.

He added: “Mutharika should remember that his cabinet minister, Ben Phiri was forced to apologise when he carelessly uttered similar scathing remarks in Balaka during 2019 Tripartite Election Campaign.”

Effort to talk to Mutharika’s press officer on the matter proved futile.
