Chilima promises to revise upward Chiefs honoraria

State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also President of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) has promised to revise upwards Chiefs honoraria once Tonse Alliance is voted into power in the Fresh Presidential Polls.

Chilima who is also Tonse Alliance runningmate said this at Kasinje in Ntcheu Bwanje North where he is drumming support for Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

“Honoraria for chiefs needs close attention. If we say that chiefs work with the government of the day then let’s look at their pay in line with government pay scales. Government minimum wage is K40,000 but chiefs get K2,500. Who gets the other K37,500? Who is stealing it?” Chilima wondered.

Chilima also assured chiefs that the Tonse Alliance government will give respect back to them and take politics out of chieftaincy issues.

He also urged Malawians to stop clapping hands for leaders for constructing roads, saying it’s their taxes.
