Ntcheu electoral stakeholders worries over political violence

Some electoral stakeholders in Ntcheu says political violence ahead of fresh Presidential poll are unfortunate and need a quick solution by all leaders involved in the election.

It follows last week’s Saturday incident where angry communities in Ntcheu blocked Everton Chimulirenji of Democratic Progressive (DPP) to conduct a political rally which was expected to be held at Mafuwa Village in Ntcheu Bwanje North Constituency.

Ntcheu NICE Public Trust, District Civic Education Officer, Alinafe Talimile said on the sidelines of an electoral stakeholders meeting that a free and credible election cannot be achieved if their is political tension.

“Free and credible election cannot be achieved if their is political tension,” she said.

She has since urged political parties taking part in the election to concentrate on issue based campaigns ahead of the fresh presidential poll.

Ntcheu Malawi Congress (MCP) District Chairman, Mlalazi Senzani says political violence are counterproductive to democracy.

His counterpart, Ntcheu DPP District Youth Director, Mailosi Litchapa agreed to ensure peace prevails during campaign period.

In the meantime, Parliament has set 23 June as date for the fresh presidential election.
