Zambians, Zimbabweans Hail Malawians for Fighting Injustice Through the Ballot

As Malawians are still waiting for the official results of the June 23, 2020 fresh presidential elections, citizens from neighboring countries of Zambia and Zimbabwe are hailing Malawians for fighting against injustice through the ballot.

After Malawians cast their votes on May 21, 2019, they never left the streets as they accused the then-declared victors of conniving with the electoral body Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) of robbing their votes.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera and United Transformation Movement (UTM) leader Saulos Chilima went to court challenging Peter Mutharika presidency.

On February 3, this year the Constitutional Court nullified the presidential elections on the argument that the elections were marred with severe irregularities and that the commissioners did not follow procedures before announcing the winner.

After the Constitutional Court nullified the presidency of Mutharika, he (Mutharika) approached the Supreme Court of Appeal hoping that the judgment delivered by the below court might be upheld.

However, the Supreme Court agreed with the Constitutional Court and ordered that preparations of the elections should proceed.

After going to polls on June 23, unofficial results are indicating that Lazarus Chakwera is leading followed by the incumbent president Peter Mutharika a development which has impressed neighboring countries.

Zambians who are expected to go to polls next year are urging each other to follow Malawi’s footsteps of standing for the truth and say enough is enough.

One Justine Munshy writes “The truth is newly elected president of malawi chakwera is over qualified for him to lead malawi. As a Zambian, iam asking we can supply you with chagwa free of charge to come and help mutharika to develop malawi more and more then zambia take chakwera. How is the volume Zambians? We can export chagwa to malawi for free then we get chakwera and we give malawi the money we were supposed to spend on elections next year.this money can help mutharika and chagwa develop malawi rapidly. Give me a fist malawians,”
