Tanzania’s Ruling Party nominates President Magufuli For October Elections

Tanzanian President John Magufuli was on Saturday nominated to carry the ruling CCM party’s flag in the country’s October elections.
The 60-year-old was elected in 2016 to replace Jakaya Kikwete.
Magufuli was nominated unopposed by CCM, a move that me have been a show of confidence bestowed upon him by the party.
“I’m elected by all members of this meeting but let us not expect to win the general election by 100 percent. I thank you all for your endorsement but let’s work hard and sell our manifesto,” Magufuli told the meeting.
Samia Suluhu Hassan was nominated to deputize Magufuli once again.
She has served as Tanzania’s vice president since 2015, the first woman to hold the position since independence.
The CCM said its election manifesto for the next five years will focus on job creation, good governance, justice and revolutionizing agriculture, among others.
The party also picked Hussein Mwinyi, the son of former Tanzanian president Ali Hassan Mwinyi, to run for president of the semi-autonomous island of Zanzibar.
