Choir Master arrested for defilement

Police in Mponela have arrested a choir Master aged 33 for defiling a choir member.

The suspect is identified as Diyere Banda of Kasalika village in the area of Traditional Authority Mponela in Dowa district.

The suspect committed the offence during the month of May 2020 inside Mphimbi Forest, SMED Forest and Mponela Admac Forest around Mponela Trading Centre.

Brief facts are that both the victim who is under the age of 16 and the suspect are Christian’s under Kapaza CCAP Church.The suspect has been a member of the church choir for many years.

The victim joined the choir three years ago at a time when the suspect had risen to the position of choir Master.In December 2019, he enticed the victim for the two to be in love relationship.

The two were having unprotected sexual intercourse in the places mentioned.

Since May 2020 the victim has never seen menstruation and after conducting tests it revealed that she is pregnant. The matter was reported to Mponela Police after which the suspect was arrested.

The suspect will soon appear before court soon to answer the charge of defilement which contraveness section 138(1) of the penal code.
