Mzimba road accident claims two, others sustain injuries

Two passengers have died while five others have escaped with serious and minor injuries in a road accident which has occurred in Mzimba District.

The accident occurred near Mwitha Primary School in the district on Saturday, July 25, 2020 in the evening hours.

The accident involved a Nissan Vanet Minibus registration number BT 8689, driven by Koliza Innocent 24, Burundian C/O Edingeni Market.

He was driving from Manyamula Trading Centre and was heading towards Edingeni along the Manyamula-Edingeni earth road.

There were seven passengers on board.

Upon arrival at Mwitha, the driver failed to control the vehicle due to overspeeding and as a result, the vehicle overturned.

Following the impact, two passengers: Yesaya Nkhata 25 of William Ngwenya Village in Traditional Authority M’mbelwa in Mzimba and Wisky Dominic 35, a Burundian C/O Edingeni market in the district died on the spot.

Postmortem results revealed that the two died due to head injuries.

The other five passengers are receiving treatment at Mzimba District Hospital.

The motor vehicle had its front and rear parts extensively damaged.

Police is appealing to all drivers to observe speed limits to avoid such accidents.
