Parliament Disowns Facebook Page Bearing Name of Speaker of Parliament

Parliament has denied the existence of a Facebook page which is bearing the name of speaker of the house Catherine Gotani Hara.

Yesterday unknown people renamed Dr. Cassim Chilumpha Facebook page to the Catherine Gotani Hara.

In a press statement seen by Faceofmalawi reporter, spokesperson for the August House Ian Mwenye described the page as fake.

“It has come to the attention of this house that someone or some people have opened a Facebook account bearing the name Catherine Gotani Hara who is the speaker of the Parliament of Malawi.

“In the interest of promoting accurate information and preventing fake news, the general public is advised that the Speaker does not own this page or any other Facebook account,” reads part of the statement.

The statement added that the Gotani Hara does not endorse the contents of the said page.

The general public has therefore been advised to un-follow all such or similar accounts.

According to the statement, the issue has since been reported to relevant authorities.
