Dorothy ‘Cash Madam’ Shonga Dismisses Arrest Rumors; Police, MRA Inspect Her House

Entrepreneur Dorothy Shonga popularly known as Cash Madam has dismissed social media rumors that she has been arrested, describes the reports as surprising.

On Tuesday social media platforms were awash with reports that the Malawi boss lady, Shonga is under police custody following her involvement in suspicious deals at Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA).

According to reports Shonga was awarded a contracting of supplying Golf Shirts to MERA at K75, 000 each while the same golf shirts could go at K10, 000 to K20, 000 in local markets.

Revelations continue that Shonga has been withdrawing huge sums of money from MERA with the help of some top officials from the parastatal.

Responding to social media reports regarding her alleged arrest, Shonga said it is sad and surprising before confirming that the police and officials from Malawi Revenue Authority invaded her house for inspection.

“It’s sad. Visited my timeline only to be surprised on news that I have been arrested. With the rumours that have been flooded on social media, MRA and Police stormed my house to check how legit my cars (Range Rover and ML  Formatic) are,” she said.

Shonga added that she handed over the necessary papers only to find nothing sinister and they left.

She further added that she is not a politician and does not work for government emphasizing that she is purely an entrepreneur.

Reacting to the video that has resurfaced on social media which is seeing her dancing and splashing dollars to the floor, cash madam said the video was taken way back in 2018 when she was in Uganda.

She added that in this digital age everyone has the power to formulate “sorts of theories and news against someone.”
