A girl who got injured during walk-in medical interviews dies in Mzuzu

One of the victims of June 9th ministry of health interviews stampede has died at Mzuzu central hospital due to severe internal injuries, Akometsi has established.

The deceased, Joyce Ngwira who was among the people who were trampled on during the walk in interviews that were conducted at Katoto secondary school has died after spending some months in the hospital.

Joyce who, according to her sister, was until her demise only 20 years old and was discharged countless times because medics failed to diagnose any problem in her.

“But, she was always complaining of stomachache and despite giving her medication the problem persisted till today when we have lost her,” said Joyce’s sister, Ruth.

The young deceased who hailed from the area of traditional authority Kampingo Sibande in Mzimba district was a holder of a diploma in nursing which she had obtained at Ekwendeni College of nursing in 2015.

“But, since she graduated, no jobs were available for her to clinch. This compelled her to try her luck on the post of a Health surveyors assistant (HSA) which was advertised,” added Ruth.

Meanwhile, burial arrangements for Joyce indicates that she will be laid to rest today, August 21st at Zolozolo cemetery.

Thousands of jobless youth on June 9th trooped to medical walk in interviews at Katoto secondary school to try their luck of possible considerations on health positions like HSA, ward attendant, laundry attendant and cleaners.
