Man hangs himself after wife tells him to stop drinking beer

A man in Dowa has hanged himself to a tree after his wife told him to stop drinking beer.

The deceased, Isaac Nyati, 45, killed himself on August 29, 2020.

Police in the district have confirmed the tragedy saying Nyati was found hanging dead in a nearby garden.

Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police spokesperson said Nyati, a well known drunkard would go missing for sometime when the wife tried to reason with him to stop drinking beer.

“Eventually he would come back home. This has been happening for several times and on Friday morning August 28 2020, the deceased left his house pretending that he was going to drink beer at a nearby village,” M’bumpha said.

The Police publicist said Nyati did not come back home this time around prompting his wife and the children to start looking for him within the village and they were later informed that he was seen hanging dead in a tree in a nearby garden.

A report was put to Police, who in turn visited the scene and postmortem conducted at Thonje Health Centre established that death was caused due to suffocation secondary to strangulation.

M’bumpha said no foul play has been suspected and no arrests made.
