Bushiri’s church accepts new COVID-19 rules

Enlighten Christian Gathering (ECG) church of Prophet Shepherd Bushiri in Malawi has accepted revised Coronavirus measures set up by the Tonse Alliance government led by Dr. Lazaru Chakwera.

On Sunday, government through Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda announced and gazzeted new COVID-19 rules which reduced church gatherings to less than 10 people.

In funerals, government reduced the number of people attending the funeral to less than 50. As this was not enough, government also imposed a mandatory use of facemasks.

But the rules attracted strong protest from religious leaders with the CCAP Synod Assembly refusing to follow the new rules.

The church leaders argued that they were not consulted.

On Thursday night, the Presidential task force on COVID-19 revised the rules with the number of public gatherings adjusted to 100.

Reaction to the development, ECG Church in Malawi accepted to the new rules and promised Chakwera’s the church will be in the forefront in following the rules.

The church said COVID-19 battle can only be won through mult-scetoral approach.
