Lilongwe Police hunt for unknown thugs who killed motorcycle operator

Police in Lilongwe are hunting for unknown thugs who killed a motorcycle operator before robbing him of his bike.

The deceased is identified as Billy Chimimba from Chitekesa Village in Traditional Authority Nkhumba in Phalombe.

According to Lilongwe Station Public Relations Officer, Foster Benjamin, the incident occurred Thursday at around 1 a.m. at a place called Unit 6 along Malingunde Road from Chigwirizano in Lilongwe.

“Chimimba was hired by some criminals who posed as clients heading to Unit 6. The thugs then killed him and went away with his motorcycle,’’ Benjamin said.

He said Chimimba was discovered by his fellow motorcycle operators who reported to Chinsapo Police Unit.

The Police took the body to Kamuzu Central Hospital where postmortem showed his death was due to severe head injuries following the assault.

Investigations are underway to trace the assailants.
