Mtambo Refutes Running For Parliamentary Seat in Karonga

Citizen for Transformation (CFT) Commander in Chief Timothy Mtambo has refuted social media rumors that he is planning to run for a parliamentary seat in Karonga Central Constituency.

The seat became vacant following the demise of Cornelius Mwalwanda who succumbed to the novel coronavirus.

According to a press statement seen by this publication, CFT spokesperson Negracious Austin said the said rumors that Mtambo who is also the minister of Civic Education and Unity will be contesting for the parliamentarian by-elections in Karonga are untruthful.

According to the statement, if Mtambo wanted to contest for the position as speculated, he would have come open as he did with his decision to join frontline politics.

“Be assured that the CIC s always open regarding his intentions on matters that revolve around governance. Just as he disclosed his entry into politics, he would, surely have disclosed any intentions to contest for parliamentary seat if he had them,” reads part of the statement.

The statement made it clear that the human rights defender cum politician is not running for the parliamentary seat.

“For avoidance of doubt, the CFT Commander in Chief is not contesting for a parliamentary seat,” the statement said.
