Theology student in trial for burglary and theft

A 27-year-old student of Theology Rusangu University and a resident of Silverest gardens in Chongwe has appeared in Chongwe magistrate court for burglary and theft contrary to Section 301 of the penal code, Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Aaron Zimba who is accused of the said offense denied the charge when he took plea before magistrate Majory Saasa. The court recorded a plea of not guilty and set a trial date for September 29th.

Particulars of the offence were that on a date unknown, but between 16th and 23rd August the accused is alleged to have broken into the dwelling of Abel Lungu of Silverest gardens in Chongwe with an intent to commit a felony therein.

It is alleged that the accused stole one bottle of perfume, a power bank, portable power units and 7 solar lamps among other items. The items were all together valued at K5, 650.00. The stolen items are reported to be the property of Abel Lungu.

The accused is being represented by Messrs Mulenga and Advocates of Lusaka. The advocate asked for a free bail stating that the accused was from a humble background.

The court granted the bail with two working sureties and adjourned the matter to September 29th for commencement of trial while the accused was remanded in custody until he meets the bail conditions.
