More than 20, 000 girls fell pregnant from March to August this year, while 12, 000 girls have married

Government has attributed the rise in teenage pregnancies and child marriages to the closure of schools due to Covid-19.

In 2019, Malawi registered 10 000 teen pregnancies and about 5000 child marriages during the same period.
