NBS dismisses hacking rumours

New Building Society (NBS) Bank has dismissed rumours hovering on the social media claiming that hackers penetrated into the bank system and went away with millions of cash.

According to the report, the suspected hackers obtained bank accounts and transaction information of over 20,000 customers.

Reacting to the rumours through a statement released on Tuesday made available to faceofmalawi, the bank trashed the rumuours describing it as untrue.

“There is no loss of customer funds as has been reported. As a bank, we have stringent security protocols to ensure protection of depositors’ funds,” the statement said.

The bank also assured its customers that “their deposits are safe and intact.”

NBS warned the media to engage the Bank to verify information “in order to maintain professionalism and to avoid unnecessary panic.”
