Mpinganjira’s bribery case adjourned

The Judge bribery case involving well-known businessman Thom Mpinganjira has been adjourned to date to be announced where the presiding Judge will deliver a ruling on whether Mpinganjira has a case to answer or not.

The adjournment came after the State and the defence team finalized oral submission in the case.

The state through Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Reyneck Matemba asked the court to make its determination based on the evidence that was presented before the court in the testimony given by the five judges sitting ACB prosecutor.

ACB director said based on the testimony that was given, it is clearly evident that the parcel which was supposed to be given to the judges existed.

He said it is also clearly evident that the parcel contained money which was supposed to be given to the judges.

But Mpinganjira’s lawyer Patrice Nkhono trashed the conclusion that the parcel that his client intended to deliver to Constitutional Court Judges contained cash amounting to Mk100 million.

Nkhono feels there was no reason to jump to the conclusion that the parcel was aimed at influencing the Constitutional Court to rule in favour of Mec and DPP when the accused never disclosed where the money was coming from and it’s purpose.
