Doctor Kills His Wife, Commits Suicide in US

Chief Eric Robins, Sugar Land Police Department, Texas confirmed the incident on Sunday adding that the case was still under investigation, NAN reports.

A Nigerian doctor, Benjamin Okigbo on Friday murdered his wife Theresa Okigbo before killing himself at their Greatwood home.

According to Robins, the couple were found around 10:05 am at the Greatwood Subdivision in the 1500 block of Brookstone Lane in what seemed like an apparent murder-suicide.

He further stated that preliminary investigations revealed that Benjamin Okigbo strangled Theresa Okigbo to death before he eventually killed himself.

“One of the kids dialled 911 apparently when he suspected that a fight or disturbance was going on inside the residence and the Police said when its officers arrived at the house, they found the couple dead inside their home.

“It appears that it could be a potential murder-suicide but it has not been totally ruled,” he said.

Reacting, the Chairman Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa described the death of Dr Ben Okigbo, and his wife, Theresa, as shocking and depressing.

Dabiri-Erewa in a statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head, Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit of NiDCOM in Abuja, said the commission condoled with the family.

The commission also condoled particularly with the children and the Nigerian community in the US.

“NiDCOM will continue to monitor police investigations into the unfortunate incident,” the statement said.
