Malawi Police Redeploys Officer Over Facebook Post

Nkhotakota Police Station Public Relations Officer William Kaponda has been transferred to Ndonda Police Unit in Kasungu after he reminded the Tonse Alliance Administration of their campaign promises regarding the men in uniform.

Writing on his Facebook page, Kaponda appealed to God to remind those in power to honor their promise of not allowing police officers to line up when president is passing.

“Dear God, akumbutseni anatiuza kuti tizasiya kuyalana m’misewu akamadutsa,” Kaponda said.

National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera confirmed the redeployment of the officer in question over what he calls indiscipline.

He also confirmed that the police officer has reverted to general duties.

Kadadzera said the police have a duty to protect the President at all cost.

President Lazarus Chakwera has been preaching during the campaign period that he will ensure that Police Officers are not lining up several hours waiting for the president to pass.
