Nigerian man arrested on suspicion of killing his Kenyan girlfriend

In Kenya, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday night arrested a Nigerian national on suspicion of killing his girlfriend, a Kenyan who works as a lawyer in the country’s capital, Nairobi.

Christian Kadima Mwambay was arrested at a lodging facility within Nairobi’s central business district.

Mwambay is accused of killing Elizabeth Koki, whom he was living with at Koki’s home in Syokimau.

The DCI officers said Mwambay had “attempted to trick” authorities into believing that he was at Riruta after driving his car there and abandoning it.

“He is currently in custody,” said the DCI on Twitter.

“In a report made to our officers, the suspect was spotted leaving the victim’s house last night (Thursday), before the lifeless body of the renowned lawyer was found in her bedroom today morning (Friday),” said the DCI.

Koki’s house-help was the one who discovered her body after she (nanny) entered her room at 10am Friday upon suspecting that something was not right, given Koki was always an early-riser.

The nanny found her employer’s body on the bed with blood-clotted wounds. It was then that she filed a report.

On her LinkedIn account, Elizabeth Koki described herself as “the founder of Koki & Associates — An Employment Law, Labour Relations and Human Resources Advisory firm that provides legal information, consulting and training to Employers and Human Resource Managers on all aspects of employee relations in order to prevent or reduce the liability and costs arising from employment law suits”.
