The two are Lingson Kambewa Waidon Belekanyama, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and Mohammed Sidik Mia who until his death was Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Vice President.

In a statement released by DPP Spokesperson Brown Mpinganjira said the party is deeply shocked with the deaths of the two.

“The President, entire leadership and whole family of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), are gripped with deep sorrow and sadness at the news of the demise of two cabinet ministers: Hon. Lingson Kambewa Waidon Belekanyama – Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and Hon. Mohammed Sidik Mia – Minister of Transport and Public Works, who have succumbed to Covid-19.

“We in the DPP family wish to convey our deep sympathies to the bereaved families, to President Lazarus Chakwera and to the Malawi Congress Party and the whole nation,” said Mpinganjira in the statement.

He added: “We are with you in spirit in these very difficult times.

“May God Almighty heal our Nation. May He heal all those that are stricken with this Covid-19 and indeed any other disease. May God protect all of us who have not yet been infected by this disease.”
