M1 road between Mzuzu and Bwengu impassable

Heavy rains have destroyed M1 Road between Mzuzu and Bwengu in Mzimba at Enukweni, some 37 kilometres from Mzuzu City rendering it impassable.

The Roads Authority has since advised people using the stretch to use the 38kms Endongloweni-Chisyombe via Engucwini Road.

However, this earth road which becomes impassable during the rainy season can only be used by vehicles of up to 5-tonne capacity.

In a statement, the authority said they have deployed a contractor, Chivundo Civil Engineering to the place to carry out emergency works.

“As a permanent solution, a Bailey Bridge will be launched and we are in the process of sourcing bailey parts from Mpatamanga,” reads the
statement in part.
