Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has condemned the continuous attacks on people living with albinism in the country following the killing of a 26 year old man in Mangochi.
According to a press statement seen by this publication, MHRC Executive Secretary Habiba Osman, said the Commission is deeply concerned with the “resurgence of attacks against persons with albinism”
According to Osman, the Commission received the devastating news of disappearance of Said Futon Dayton, a person with albinism who was hailing from Kadewere Village in the district.
“Yesterday, the Commission received confirmation that the man was brutally murdered on January 27, 2021 and his remains were put in a bag for a potential buyer in Zomba,” reads part of the statement.
Osman observed that following the brutal murder of Dayton is an indication that these barbaric acts are continuing in the country adding that some may have gone unreported.
She further sent condolences to the family of the late Dayton for their loss.
