Two arrested at KIA for possessing and attempting to externalize forex

Police at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) have arrested two people for being found in possession and attempting to externalise foreign currency.

The two were arrested on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the airport’s Forward Longue.

The suspects have been identified as Mrs. Mahoukou Nee Kengue Ntsonda 46, a Congolese and Mr. Abdul Mohaimen Al Allawi 43, a Syrian national.

The two were about to board an Ethiopian Flight enroute to Congo Brazivil and Syria respectively.

In the process of checking-in at the Forward Longue, fiscal police officers found out that the two had foreign currency which they intended to take out of Malawi without proper supporting documents.

The first suspect had in her possession 760 Euros which is equivalent to K744, 800.00 and the second suspect had 1,130 US Dollars equivalent to K931, 000.00.

The two were immediately arrested, all their money seized and charged with the offences of Illegal possession and attempting to externalise foreign currency out of Malawi.

The suspects will appear in court on Monday, March 1, 2021 to answer to the charges leveled against them.

KIA police are warning people that they will not let anyone externalise forex through the airport’s doors and that anyone found will be dealt with accordingly.
