Epilepsy patients complain over drug effects

By Ireen Mseteka

Guardians for epilepsy patients in Mzuzu have expressed concern over side effects, the new drug from government hospitals has caused on their patients.

Florence Singini from Choma in Mzimba said that her daughter has suffered lack of appetite and body weakness since she started a different epilepsy prescription from Mzuzu Central Hospital.

“My daughter used to receive medication from St. John of God in Mzuzu and she was well all along. Last year in September or so, as usual we went to St. John of God for a monthly clinic.

“After receiving the drug, we were told by the doctor that starting from the following month we will be getting the drugs at Mzuzu Central Hospital or Mapale Urban Centre. He said drugs will now be available in government hospitals,” she said.
