The First Grade Magistrate Court in Dowa District has sentenced 50-year-old Zebron Braundi to 14 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour for defiling a 7 year old girl.
Police prosecutor, Gradys Jentala, told the court that on January 9 this year, the victim’s mother noticed some blood stains and sores on her daughter’s private parts when she was bathing her.
She then quizzed the daughter, who narrated that her grandfather, Braundi, defiled her thrice at his house on different occasions but she was threatened not to reveal the matter to anyone.
Appearing before the court, the convict pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement which contravenes Section 138 (1) of the Penal Code and the State paraded four witnesses to prove the case.
First Grade Magistrate Anthony Banda sentenced Braundi to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour.
Braundi hails from Nthanga Village in the area of Traditional Authority Dzoole in the district.
