An inheritance battle turned sour after a Victoria Falls man stabbed his elder sister with a pair of scissors following a fight over a house left to them by their late parents.
Faceofmalawi has established that Kelvin Sibanda (32) and his sister Viola Sibanda (35) have been fighting over the inheritance of house number 1709 Chinotimba resulting in the woman, who is the complainant, and her daughter fleeing from home.
It has been reported that Kelvin had been threatening to kill his sister over the house leading to the woman and her little daughter seeking refuge at a neighborâs house.
On Saturday, Kelvin claimed he was looking for charcoal when he went to the place of refuge. He then stabbed his elder sister with a pair of scissors following an argument.
Kelvin appeared before Victoria Falls resident magistrate Lindiwe Maphosa who did not ask him to plead to a charge of physical abuse.
The magistrate proceeded according to the Mental Health Act and sent the accused person for mental examination by two doctors to ascertain his mental state before the case can proceed.
The State represented by Asher Chindedza alleges that Kelvin armed himself with a pair of scissors and proceeded to his sisterâs hideout with the intention to stab her.
The court was told that upon arrival at the house where his sister was hiding, Sibanda knocked on a window before forcibly opening the door into a room where the complainant was.
âOn the 6th day of March 2021 at around 6AM and at house number 1709 Chinotimba, the accused visited the complainant who was hiding at her neighbourâs place of residence. The complainant and accused had a misunderstanding over charcoal before he (accused) stabbed the complainant once on the left palm with a scissors,â said the prosecutor.
A source reports that Viola sustained an injury on the palm and reported the matter to the police leading to her brotherâs arrest.
