TUM calls off teachers strike

Date:

The teachers’ strike has been called off following a consent order signed by Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) and government to have teachers to go back to work tomorrow and also have the court case that government opened against TUM, postponed pending negotiations.

TUM president, Willie Malimba, has since called on teachers to go back to work tomorrow as TUM and government continue with negotiations on teachers’ demands for personal protective equipment allowances.

Last week, government dragged TUM to court over the strike and the case was scheduled for today.

It is yet to be seen if the negotiations will yield tangible results this time around.
