A 9 year old girl, identified as Mbombe Alex, has died after being attacked by a crocodile in Lake Malawi.
The incident occurred at Monkeybay in Mangochi district.
On that fateful day, Mbombe went to the lake with her friends to draw water as well as to swim.
In course of swimming Mbombe got attacked by the crocodile.
Her friends reported the matter to her parents who later reported to Monkeybay Police.
The Police together with Officers from Parks and wildlife as well as members of the community tried to rescue her body from the crocodile but their effort yielded nothing.
The dead body was found the following day floating close to the area she was attacked.
Similar incident happened to the same family last year when Fatsani Alex, brother to Mbombe got lost after being attacked by a crocodile within the same area.
Meanwhile, Police are appealing to the community to refrain from using crocodile infested places as it provides better environment for the crocodile to thrive well since that part of the lake is marshy.
Mbombe hailed from Domwe village traditional authority Namkumba in Mangochi district.
