Irate villagers forces contractor to suspend upgrading of Nsanje -Marka Road

A Chinese Company upgrading 26 Kilometer Nsanje –Marka road has been forced to suspend work as communities say they will only allow the contractor to resume work, upon payment of their compensation money.

On Saturday they had discussions between irate communities from the area of Traditional Authorities Makoko, Chimombo, Ndamera and Ngabu and Roads Authority, Nsanje district council representatives the contactor and Chiefs.

During their discussions they said that they  saw tempers Flaring as the representatives of the communities took the authorities task arguing those responsible slept on their job.

The communities claim the borrow pits where the contractor has been getting soil for the work, have affected their land among other concerns.

Roads Authority Board Member Senior Chief Malemia of Nsanje who led the discussions, has assured the grieving communities that another assessment will be conducted for their action.
