KYUNGU BRIDGE UPDATE: ROADS AUTHORITY ENGAGES CONTRACTOR TO FIX THE PROBLEM IN 24 HOURS

Roads Authority has disclosed that it has engaged Zhejiang Construction Communications Company (ZCCC), the Karonga based contractor responsible for the construction of Kyungu bridge that been washed away by running water, early hours of Thursday, April 22 to fix the problem within 24 hours.

Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Matapa has confirmed the development while assuring the road users of the 46km Karonga-Songwe road that the authority will fix Kyungu Bridge within 24 hours to make sure that business goes back to normal.

Matapa however acknowledged that RA is aware of the critical role the road plays in the social-economic development of the country hence, the urgent attention.

Following the development, long queues of tankers are seen at the bridge from either side of the road.

On the recent development, the deputy minister of Transport and Public Works Nancy Mdooka, and Paramount  Chief Kyungu visited the bridge to appreciate the problem.

Vice President Saulos Chilima who in the Northern part touring developmental projects is yet to make the emergency visit later in the day.
