K9.4bn swimming pool project stirs debate

LILONGWE – While the Minister of Sports Ulemu Msungama has defended allocation of K9.4 billion towards construction of the Olympic standard swimming pool at Kamuzu Institute of Sports, the public still believe the money is just too much.
Msungama has admitted that government has awarded China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation a contract to construct the swimming pool and other facilities like pitches and stands for spectators.
The country has ambitions to host the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games.
