Catholic Priest Rev Peter Jester Banda dies of COVID-19, burial Thursday

Death has been announced of Reverend Father Peter Jester Banda, a catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe.

Father Banda succumbed to COVID-19 on Tuesday at Kamuzu Central Hospital where he was admitted.

Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) Secretary General Father Henry Saindi confirmed of the development in a statement released on Tuesday made available to faceofmalawi.

According to Saindi, late Banda will be laid to rest this coming Thursday at Likuni Cemetery.

“Requiem Mass will be celebrated at Maula Cathedral on Thursday, 6th May at 8 am without the body.

“Thereafter, burial will be held at Likuni cemetery at 10 am,” reads in part the statement.

He added: “All COVID-19 preventive measures will be strictly adhered to.”

So far more than 1000 Malawians including two Cabinet Ministers have succumbed to COVID-19.
