Zambia’s Opposition Parties Unite Ahead of August 21 Elections

ZAMBIA: United Party for National Development leader Hakainde Hichilema has said that his government, which has recently formed an alliance, will “redeem Zambia from ruin” if voted into power in the August 12 elections.

In a statement released to the press, Hakainde Hichilema has said that the alliance which has been formed will help resolve several issues which the country is currently experiencing as a result of the current government’s poor mismanagement.

“Our agenda is to re-build and re-unite this country and nothing will stop us from bringing this nation together. This, our new alliance members agree with.”

Mr Hichilema is sure that the relationship between The Zambia We Want Alliance and the UPND Alliance will “bring about the change Zambians are yearning for.”

“Unity of purpose is a truism, it worked before and it will work on 12 August as we come together to deliver this country.”

In the statement, he also speaks of the arbitrary arrests which have occurred under the current government.

“We should harbour no fear of detention. Those before us were arrested to get independence. In the same manner, let’s all be strong and remain focused. What matters is our country, and nothing will deter us from serving the people of Zambia.”

The statement finished in welcoming the new alliance partners.
