Prison officer shoots dead girlfriend and her 1-year-old son

Kenya: A prison officer is reported to have shot dead his girlfriend and her one-year-old son.

David Nduati is said to have killed his girlfriend Joyce Mwende Ngui, 30, and her son, Raji Mwende within Waita GK Prisons.

The incident happened on Tuesday evening at 11 pm.

According to the police occurrence book (OB), Nduati, who was on duty at the time of the shooting incident, killed the girlfriend and her son before surrendering his G3 rifle to officers manning the main gate.

He is said to have confessed to murdering the girlfriend.

“The duty officer received information that Pc David Nduati Kimani had surrendered his G3 Rifle to the officers manning the main gate and he confessed that he had killed someone and left,” reads in part the OB report.

Police say the victims had just arrived at the officer’s house from his in-laws when the incident happened.

The officer and the deceased have been living together for some time, police say.

“The duty officer proceeded to the scene of the crime that’s Pc David’s house, together with two guard commanders and found that one Joyce Mwende Ngui and her son Raji Mwende a juvenile aged about 1-year-old had been shot dead by Pc David Nduati Kimani inside his house. They arrested him while he was about to escape,” reads a police report as captured in the OB.

A total of six spent cartridges were collected inside the house and a G3 rifle S/no. 081551 loaded with a magazine of 11 rounds of ammunition were recovered and kept as exhibits.

The motive of the killings is yet to be established.

The bodies of the deceased have been moved to Mwingi Level IV Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
