Young Father Poisons Own Two-Month-Old Son Following Fight With Wife

A young teenage father has confessed to poisoning his two-month-old son with a pesticide following a heated argument with his wife.

19-year-old Brenton Dengwani Guri of Chawa Village under Chief Makoni made the shocking revelation during his trial for murder at the High Court in Mutare.

Guri who initially pleaded not guilty to the charge confessed to the crime following the presentation of the state’s case against him.

The young father committed the crime back in October 2019, following a heated dispute with his wife. Due to the domestic problems and the constant squabbling that he was having with his wife, Guri decided to take his life.

He said that he poisoned his two-month-old son first, using a syringe to the mouth, because he wanted to leave his wife all alone in this world. However, for some reason, he did not take the diazinon pesticide after administering it to his son.

Shortly after his arrest, Guri made the following warned and cautioned statement,

“I admit to the allegations being levelled against me. I wanted to use the pesticide in my garden. I intended to trap a creature which was preying on my pigeons, but then l did not use it as intended.

“After a misunderstanding with my wife, I thought of taking that pesticide and administering it on our child. I also wanted to ingest it to end my life so that we would leave my wife alone. However, I did not manage to ingest the poison.”

However, when he was indicted at the Mutare High Court, he initially denied the allegations.

Following the presentation of the state’s case, ZBC reports that Guri had a change of heart and finally admitted to the charges.

He told the court that he wanted to commit suicide as he felt hopeless after endless squabbles with his ex-wife whom he thought wanted to divorce him.

Guri’s trial is still ongoing at the High Court.
