Tonse Alliance To Bar Workers’ From Staging Strike

Date:

Tonse Alliance government led by President Lazarus Chakwera is working banning employees from staging strike as a way of showing dissatisfaction with their employers way of handling issues.

This is according to a bill that has been presented by government in Parliament.

The bill is also giving power to employers to deduct wages of an employee who stages a strike.

Presenting the Bill in the House deputy minister  of Labour Vera Kamtukule observed that there is need to balance between a person’s right to stage a strike and the need for the country’s economy to continue performing.

The Bill has since been referred to Legal Affairs Committee for further scrutiny.

Meanwhile some unionists and other interested groups have faulted government for introducing the Bill saying they were not consulted.
