The Police at Waliranji Road Block in Mchinji District has on Friday, July 2, arrested a Zambian National of Asian origin for illegal entry and being found in possession of ammunition.
Mchinji police publicist Inspector Kaitano Lubrino has confirmed the development while identifying the suspect as Altaf Hussain Ishmail.
According to Kaitano, a team led by Sub Inspector Kuyera at around 23:00 hours on the said day intercepted a Toyota Allion Sedan as it was coming from the direction of Lilongwe heading to Mchinji.
In the process of searching, police found ammunition in a safe box behind the hand brake.
Hussain who was driving the car failed to give an account of the ammunition had no supporting documents.
Altaf Hussain Ishmail is a Zambian national and uses passport no ZP011499 upon authentication of the passport it was discovered that there were no exit or entry stamps for Zambia and Malawi border respectively.
With this possession of ammunition and use of uncharted routes the police became more suspicious and arrested him.
The suspect offered the officers a bribe of 200,000 which will also be tendered as an exhibit.
The suspect will appear before the court soon.
