Deputy Public Relations officer for Timothy Mtambo’s Citizen For Transformation (CFT) People Power Movement, Lyson Sibande has resigned with immediate effect July 6 2021.
In a letter directed to Mtambo, Sibande has said he has also resigned as the Movement’s Communications Strategist and member.
“I write to inform you that I have resigned as the Deputy PR & Communications Strategist for CFT and also as a member of the Movement. My resignation is effective today, the 6th of July, 2021,”¬† said Sibande.
Citing reasons that led to his decision to resign, Sibande said he thinks that he is not doing enough in helping the Movement in as far as its political growth is concerned.
“My resignation, first and foremost, follows the fact that I don’t think I am able to help you and the movement in this phase of it’s political growth,” he said.
He further added that he wants to pave way for “other Malawian youths that are more skilled and talented than me to try their part.”
Sibande also added that he want to focus on other personal things which are not political in nature hence the decision to relieve himself from his position.
“Secondly, I would like to focus on other personal things that are not political in nature. As a result, I will not be able to commit adequate time support CFT even as an ordinary member,” he added.
Sibande was appointed CFT’s Public Relations Officer immediately after Mtambo formed his political movement following his resignation as Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) chairperson.
Sibande was also appointed as Mtambo’s personal assistance following his appointment as a Minister in president Lazarus Chakwera administration but he (Sibande) faced backlash from Tonse Sympathizers who accused him of being Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporter.
In the end he resigned.
