Atupele says individual civil liberties under threat

United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi has come out the cocoon to condemn some of the bills that are being passed in the National Assembly.

Atupele’s remarks follow the passing of the Labour Relations amendment bill which seeks to stop workers from protesting or engaging in any form of strike.

The bill says the employer has the right to deduct salaries from striking workers.

Writing on his official facebook page Muluzi condemned the bill saying the bill has been brought in the house in bad faith.

“27 Years of Democracy, individual civil liberties and rule of law in Malawi now at risk……….it was expected,” wrote Atupele on his official facebook page.

On Wednesday all opposition lawmakers walked out of the house in protest of the said bill.

Meanwhile the bill has been passed into law.
