Court revokes bail of convicted police officer who raped poly student

The Limbe First Grade Magistrate Court has revoked bail of convicted Andrew Chagaga, a police officer at Limbe police station who raped student from Polytechnic now known as Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS).

Magistrate Soka Banda convicted Chagaga on Thursday after going through arguments and final submission from the state and defence.

In his ruling, Soka Banda said evidence presented in court by the state proved Chagaga had raped the girl after she was arrested.

Chikondi Chijozi, one of the state lawyers representing the victim says they are satisfied with the judgment.

Chagaga was arrested mid-December last year.

Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to 11th August 2021 for sentencing.
