AFORD President Enoch Chihana Says He Is Surprised With His Arrest

President for Alliance For Democracy (AFORD) Enoch Chihana has said he is surprised with his arrest.

Chihana was arrested yesterday along with Minister of Energy Newton Kambala and President Lazarus Chakwera’s aide Chris Chaima Banda.

The trio was arrested yesterday in connection to alleged attempts to unlawfully influence awarding of contracts at National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA).

Speaking to the media, Chihana said he has been told he is facing charges to do with offering a bribe and aiding abetting a crime.

Chihana continued that he is surprised by the arrest as the Bureau did not interview him to hear his side of the story before arresting him.

The accused are expected to appear before the court very soon.
