Bizarre: Frogs Married in July to Please Rain God Now ‘Divorced’ After Severe Rainfall In India

On July 19, 2019, the people of Bhopa (India), had to hold a wedding ceremony for a pair of frogs (according to religious beliefs) to pray to the rain god Lord Indra to end the prolonged drought in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

After months of drought, Vilagers in a state of India carried out a wedding for two frogs to please rain

According to their beliefs, Lord Indra is the king of Svarga (Heaven) and the Devas (gods). He is associated with lightning, thunder, storms, rains, river flows and war.

The wedding of frogs

However, two months after the frogs got married, the villagers’ expectations may have completely backfired as parts of India have suffered the heaviest rains in 13 years, leading to raging flood.

It is estimated that this wedding has caused an entire state in India to suffer because of the complicated flood situation and the damage suffered!

An estimated 9,000 homes were damaged and 32 people injured in the state of Madhya Pradesh alone. Two hydroelectric gates of the state also had to open to release the highest water level in 13 years.

As the heavy rainfall lead to flood, the state had to organize a divorce ceremony for the couple after just 2 months of marriage

Their marriage only lasts for 2 months

Concerned about the worsening situation, on the evening of September 11, the Bhopal government quickly filed divorce procedures for the frog couple.

The divorce ceremony of the unfortunate couple immediately took place at a temple in Bhopal with the witness of local officials and residents, the two animals were separated as soon as the ceremony ended.

Frog weddings are a regular event held in India. Many believe that this unique marriage brings the rains. The two frogs in Udupi were also married in a ceremony called “Mandooka Parinaya” to appease the gods.
